Manchester United Stadium
The home of the Red Devil’s is Old Trafford, and has been since 1910. The stadium has also been given the name, "The Theatre of Dreams," by Manchester United’s famous manager Sir Matt Busby. The stadium itself has had an intriguing history. At the beginning of World Ward II, it was used as a depot for the army, and football competition continued there just as before. Then, in December 1940, it was damaged by a German air raid. Play was temporary moved until the following March, when only a few days later it was bombed a second time, rendering it useless. Man U did not play anymore games at Old Trafford until it was repaired in 1949.
After years of rebuilding and renovation, Old Trafford has become biggest stadium of any English Premier League team, with 76,212 seats. Old Trafford is a 5-star rated, "Elite" UEFA stadium, meaning it meets the high standards of UEFA to hold the Champions League Final.
Man U’s history begins in 1878 when the club was formed, and known then as Newton Heath L&YR F.C., a worker’s football team from Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. In 1902 the team fell into financial turmoil, until a large investment by J.H. Davies, a local brewer, saved the club. They started fresh, with a new name: Manchester United.
Manchester Utd Manager
Sir Alex Ferguson is the current manager of Manchester United. Before his managing days, he was a striker with several professional teams throughout Scotland. His managing career began in 1974, at the relatively early at the age of 32. Ferguson earned ?40 a week for managing East Stirlingshire. From there he quickly moved up the ranks, joining more prestigious clubs. By 1985 he was chosen as manager of Scotland’s national team.
Fergie’s stint as Scotland’s manager was short lived, as he took over the managerial duties at Manchester United in 1986. It was a slow start, but soon, with Sir Alex at the helm, Man U began to flourish. During his career at Manchester Utd., Ferguson has won the English Premier League eleven times, the League Cup three times, the FA Cup five times, the Champions League twice, and many other various championship wins. In the 1998-99, under his leadership, the Red Devils won the Treble, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League, a feat never accomplished by any other club. He was knighted in 1999 and inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
Man Utd have won 18 domestic league championships, tying them with Liverpool for the most. They have also won many other honours, both domestically and internationally.
Since the new beginning in 1902, Man U has had a few struggles, but that is overshadowed by their enormous success.
Between World War I and World War II the team juggled between victory and failure, moving back and forth from the first division to the second division. After WWII, the team has been nothing short of spectacular, being regulated from the top division only once.
Manchester United F.C. is a football club playing in the English Premier League. They are one of the most popular and successful football teams in the world, as well as the richest of any sport.

Birmingham City F.C. Crest
Birmingham City is back in the Premier League for the 2009-10 season.
But this may be the cause of mixed emotions for all associated with the Blues, including the supporters – Bluenoses.
There should be pride because Birmingham earned an automatic promotion by finishing second in the Football League Championship in 2008-09.
However, there also may be a sense of foreboding. That’s because the Premier is such a strong league. And when the Blues have been in the top flight, they have never consistently finished in the top half of the table.
Through 2008-09, Birmingham has spent just over half of its seasons in the Football League — 55 of 106 — in the top flight. In addition to 50 in the old First Division, they have been in the Premier for only five of 17 since it was formed for 1992-93.
Birmingham’s best finish in the top flight was sixth in the First Division in 1955-56.
Birmingham’s return to the Premier means there will be at least two Birmingham Derby games in 2009-10.

Birmingham City Stadium.
St. Andrew’s Stadium has been the Blues’ home for more than a century. It opened on 26 December 1906 — a 0-0 First Division draw with Middlesbrough.
Legend has it that gypsies were evicted from the land in order to build the stadium. Thus, they put a 100-year curse on the land. If the legend is true, the curse has expired.
Initially, St. Andrew’s accommodated 75,000 spectators in a large grandstand and a large uncovered terrace.
St. Andrew’s was renovated and downsized to an all-seat stadium in the 1990s. Now, the seating capacity is just over 30,000.
